Laura Barnaby

Laura M. Barnaby was raised in Topeka, Kansas. She attended Washburn University for her undergraduate degree, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Psychology. She completed her undergraduate degree in three years while participating as a starting member of the Washburn University Soccer Team.

After college graduation, Laura moved to Des Moines, Iowa to attend Drake University School of Law. While at Drake, she completed two semesters in the Drake Legal Clinic focusing on Criminal Defense. Laura was an active member of the Drake Law School student body including membership in several student organizations including the Drake Law Negotiations Team, and she was president of Drake Law Women.

Laura was hired by the Webster County Attorney’s Office after she graduated in 2009. As a prosecutor, Laura prosecuted Class D Felonies down to simple misdemeanors. In the year and a half that she prosecuted, Laura tried more than 10 jury trials.
In 2011, Laura left the County Attorney’s office took a position with the Public Defender’s Office. While with the Public Defender’s Office, Laura defended all levels of crimes including Murders, Robberies, Sexual Assaults, and Kidnapping cases, obtaining favorable outcomes for her clients.

Laura left the Public Defender’s office in 2017 to partner with Derek Johnson and Jennifer Bonzer. Since entering private practice, Laura has primarily focused on Family Law and Criminal Defense. Laura handles family law issues including child support, dissolution of marriage, paternity, and child custody actions. Laura represents clients in all levels of criminal offenses from Class A Felonies to Traffic Violations.
Laura is dedicated to her cases and achieving favorable outcomes for her clients. She is hardworking, compassionate, and understanding. Laura’s office is located in Fort Dodge and serves clients throughout central Iowa and surrounding areas.
